Rising stars in public relations, web development and biotechnology took top honors at the 2018 HYPE Impact Awards.
The annual awards, now in their second year, are designed to recognize young professionals and entrepreneurs making a major impact on their industries and the community at large. Awards were presented in three categories: Business Leader, Emerging Leader and Startup Superstar.
Houston businessman, talent manager and record label owner Mathew Knowles provided the keynote address. Knowles spoke about the tools to success in entrepreneurship, creating a strong personal brand and overcoming everyday adversity.
Web developer and artist Gibson Hall won in the Emerging Leader category. The senior Manager of UX for Home Depot’s corporate office has created more than 50 websites independently for various organizations and helped develop the Mini Murals project that has branched out across Houston. In the Business Leader category, public relations executive and entrepreneur Ashley Small took home the award. The Founder and CEO of PR and digital marketing firm Medley Inc. also works with the nonprofit Women Empowering Nations, which helps mentor women in developing nations. Learn more about Ashley here.
For Startup Superstar, Dr. Brittany Barreto won the award for her work with Pheramor, the company she launched to help people find compatibility in the dating scene using genetic matchmaking. The life sciences startup is making waves in the scene while Brittany has become an advocate for LGBTQ issues and female entrepreneurship. Learn more about Brittany here.
