The Woodlands, the picturesque suburb north of Houston has just been named the top place to call home in the U.S.

Niche, a website that uses data and online reviews to help people choose the best schools and places to live, announced earlier this month that The Woodlands is ranked No. 1 on its 2021 list of the Best Cities to Live in America.

Niche creates its rankings by analyzing data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the FBI, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), along with reviews from residents. Among the factors that Niche considers are the cost of living, entertainment and nightlife, neighborhood diversity, public schools, crime and safety, and walkability.

Niche gave The Woodlands a grade of A+ for public schools, A- for housing, A- for diversity, A+ family-friendliness and A+ for jobs. These factors helped the city earn an overall grade of A+.

The Woodlands, located 27 miles north of downtown Houston, has been one of the best-selling master-planned communities in Texas since 1990. Nestled in 28,000 acres of native forest, the city offers a variety of shopping, dining, outdoor activities, nightlife and entertainment, including Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.

“It’s a great suburban city with many trees, restaurants, stores, and even a mall. It is very diverse and has a great education system,” said one reviewer on Niche.

The Woodlands is also one of the fastest-growing areas for employment opportunities, with many of the region’s top employers located within the city including Memorial Hermann, Baker Hughes, St. Luke’s, Chevron Phillips and Anadarko.

“Job outlook is very broad, from many part-time jobs for young citizens in various shopping centers to high-level corporations. There are places such as Anadarko and Chevron, but also Kroger and small businesses,” said another reviewer on Niche. “The majority of the people who live in the area also work in the area, since there is such a variety of jobs that offer different opportunities.”

Niche has also ranked The Woodlands amongst the best cities in the U.S. to buy a home and one of the best cities to raise a family.
